Digging through my grandparents basement, I found a tote bin full of old film negatives that my grandfather had taken during his time in the Air Force, and during the early years of his 50 year marriage with my grandmother.
I don’t remember much other than thinking that I wanted someone to be looking at my photos in 50 years, and so I set my sights on photography. I got my first DSLR (shoutout to the Nikon D40) as a grade 8 graduation present. I started my “career” (can you even call it a career when you’re underage?) by photographing my friends bands in the underground music scene, and then family photos, and then I was accidentally thrust into wedding photography when I was 17. I started my business (officially) in 2012 while balancing standard 9-5 and doing the delicate dance of balancing life, a business and a job. I know first hand how overwhelming this balance can be, and at the time I didn’t know how to handle it. I invested in several mentorships, seminars, shoot outs and PDFs trying to find my place. Over 200 weddings later — I’ve found it. There is nothing I love more than seeing my people grow and succeed, and that’s why I’ve compiled a section of what I needed when I started my business: no bullshit mentoring. A good start on how to talk to my clients, someone to teach me what the f*ck a workflow is, and how to manage all the backend stuff that inevitable comes with running a business. So if you’re sitting there wondering how the hell everyone else seems to have their life together — trust me, they don’t. But I can help you get a little closer. Let’s chat, dig into what’s working (and what’s not), and get you feeling confident behind both the camera and the business side of it.
Mentorship sessions may include:
Editing / workflow / consistency / brand / pricing / portfolio and website critique / client communication / gear / more.
Every single mentorship comes with my email templates, pricing calculator and expense spreadsheet.
Mentoring Options
I’m an open book. You bring your questions, and I’ll bring my years of knowledge. This is your chance to ask me anything, no topic is off limits.
1. Coffee and a chat - 1h - $175
This is your own, customized mentoring session geared to you and where you stand with your business. I’ll take you through my process, start to finish. The good, the exciting, the bad and the ugly.
First, we’ll have a zoom pre-planning call. This is where I get to know about you and your business, where you’re at, and where you want to be.
The day of your mentoring session, we’ll meet at a cafe. This is your chance to ask me anything, no topic is off limits. Here we’ll have a few hours to chat, critique any portfolio, web or documents that you’d like looked at, talk about workflows, consistency, client communication and more. After our coffee, we’ll head out for a couples session anywhere within 100km of Kelowna.
After the session, we’ll debrief over food or more coffee, and have the chance to edit our photos together. Here we can talk about editing techniques, presets or profiles, and editing programs. When the day is over, I’ll present you with a plan to launch your business to the next f*cking level. 30 days after your mentoring session, we’ll catch back up virtually. We check progress, tackle lingering questions, and fine-tune anything that’s off.
